About C.M. Soliz

I Spent Years Looking at What People Hide. Now I Write About It.

The Work Before the Books

Before I wrote a single chapter, I spent 15 years working real investigations as a Texas Government Investigator. I learned that a scene tells you two stories: the one someone wants you to see, and the one they forgot to clean up.

I learned to read the small things. A door left unlocked. A timeline that runs eleven minutes long. A witness who answers the question you didn’t ask. Most of all, I learned that the first conclusion is usually the most dangerous one, because it is the one everyone stops looking past.

That lesson sits at the center of every book I write.

Why I Write Dark Fiction

People ask why I chose thrillers and horror instead of something lighter. The honest answer is that I never stopped thinking about the cases. Not the headlines, but the quiet parts: the families waiting in hallways, the people nobody noticed until it was too late, the way ordinary towns hold secrets in plain sight.

Fiction lets me follow those questions all the way down. My characters are not superheroes. They are tired, stubborn, observant people who notice one detail too many and can’t let it go. The darkness in these books is not there for shock. It is there because I have seen how close it sits to everyday life.

The Books

The Angel of Death is a procedural crime thriller built on forensic detail. Detective Miller knows a staged scene when he sees one, and this killer is staging them for an audience.

The Crimson Doorway is a supernatural psychological thriller inspired by real events. A girl vanishes, and the only place left to search is a forest the locals refuse to enter.

Shadow on the Overpass is my most personal book. It follows Miguel, a man everyone leans on and no one sees, and asks what happens when the silence starts to speak back.

All three are available in Kindle, paperback, and hardcover, and you can read them free with Kindle+.

What Comes Next

My next novel, Close Tolerance, takes readers onto the floor of a small-town Ohio factory, where a machinist inherits his late father’s obsession with a serial killer who was never caught.

Away From the Page

I write at home, in the evenings, once the day has gone quiet and the only thing left to chase is the next scene. When I read for fun, it is almost always suspense thrillers. I can’t help it. I read them the way I used to read a file, looking for the detail the author hoped I would miss.
